The ARC Centre of Excellence for Free Radical Chemistry and Biotechnology conducts world leading scientific research to protect materials and humans from free radical damage.

Free radicals cause the deterioration of plastics, the fading of paint, the degradation of works of art, aging related illnesses, and contribute to heart attacks, stroke and cancers.

The Centre is home to over 140 researchers located at the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, the University of Sydney, the Heart Research Institute, Monash University, the Queensland University of Technology, and the University of Wollongong. It draws together a unique grouping of fundamental chemists, medicinal chemists, biochemists, biologists and materials scientists dedicated to the understanding and application of free radical chemistry.
